ADVANCED ORTHOBIOLOGICS

Utilizing progressive therapies to support the body’s natural processes involved  with performance, recovery, quality of life, and overall health

What are Biologics?

Biologics are innovative therapies utilized to support and enhance the natural reactions that occur within the body. These therapies use proteins, growth factors, cells, and other biological components to support the body’s response to injury.

PRP is a concentrated preparation of platelets made from a person’s own blood. The alpha granules in PRP store biologically active proteins and growth factors. Scientific research has shown that these platelet-derived components can be involved in cell communication, formation of new blood vessels, production and organization of the extracellular matrix, regulation of inflammation, and involvement in the tissue repair processes.

Stem cell therapy utilizes cells that can secrete many different types of bioactive molecules that can support the body’s natural biologic pathways. Clinical research has focused on this type of therapy for its possible supplemental effects with the body’s ability to respond and adapt to injury and recovery.

A2M is a super protein that naturally circulates in the blood. It functions as a protease inhibitor and traps certain proteins and has demonstrated to regulate the chemical environment around cells and within tissues. Research has shown that A2M’s protein mechanism of action can assist the body’s normal inflammatory, remodeling, and repair processes.

APC is a broad collection of various known anti-inflammatory proteins in high concentration. Some proteins, including certain cytokines and cytokine receptor blockers, have shown to have a more anti-inflammatory profile. The collection of various proteins are being researched individually and together to understand its effects with the body’s natural recovery and repair processes.

Platelet poor plasma, unlike platelet rich plasma, contains lower concentrations of platelets, but still carries important plasma proteins, growth factors, and cytokines. Because of its reduced cellular content, PPP is often explored for its potential role supporting the body’s response to muscle injuries and muscle fiber remodeling. Clinical research published by Stanford University and the University of Iowa, in recent years, have explored this effect.

Exosomes involve small extracellular vesicles released from cells. These vesicles contain proteins, lipids, messenger RNA and micro RNA material. They are small biologic delivery packages used by cells to communicate with one another. Research studies show that this biologic cargo can possibly assist the body’s response to inflammation and injury.

ACS therapy is a natural treatment derived from your blood that includes proteins and growth factors. ACS focuses on concentrating a signaling protein called interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein (IRAP) to block one of the major inflammatory proteins in the body called interleukin-1.

Platelet lysate is a biologic solution created by breaking open platelet cells to release their full concentration of growth factors and cytokines. Unlike traditional PRP, platelet lysate contains no intact platelets, making it less inflammatory while still delivering a potent blend of signaling molecules.

How long does it take to see results from PRP?

PRP supplements the body’s natural response to injury which can take as long as several months to take place. It is a natural stimulant that can support the the natural healing processes.

Stem cell therapy has decades of research demonstrating its safety profile and has ongoing research looking into its use as an adjunct to the body’s natural response to injury and inflammation.

It is recommended to undergo a formal consult with Dr. Yoon to fully understand your situation and needs. A formal plan of care will be created using biologic therapies if deemed appropriate.
