Background and Education

Dr. Yoon obtained his medical degree in his home state of Alabama at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in New York City at the NYU Medical Center and Hospital for Joint Diseases where he was faculty selected as Administrative Chief Resident.

He then completed fellowship training and board certification in Pain Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center specializing in multidisciplinary treatment approaches for acute and chronic pain.

Career

Dr. Yoon joined and became one of the original partners of the renown Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic utilizing his unique blend of training and skills in sports medicine, physiatry, pain medicine, diagnostic ultrasonography, image-guided procedures using fluoroscopy and ultrasound, and the use of non-surgical biologic therapy in professional sports during its early stages of adoption. Utilizing these non-surgical approaches for professional athletes over the last two decades in collaboration with many elite performance professionals and medical providers has helped refine the practice to what it is today.

Dr. Yoon joined the staffs of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Lakers early in his career and through the years also provided medical care for many of the local professional teams in Los Angeles including the NHL Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks, NBA Los Angeles Clippers, MLB Los Angeles Angels, WNBA Los Angeles Sparks, and NFL Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. He is a regular consultant with many teams, sports agencies, and athletes around the country for other sports including Major League Soccer (MLS), National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Pro Boxing, ATP/WTA Professional Tennis tours, PGA/LPGA Professional Golf tours, and FIVB and AVP Pro Beach Volleyball tours. He is regularly sought out as a consultant in collegiate sports and for the Olympics. He is currently the Head Team Physician for the NBA LA Clippers basketball team and a Team Physician for the Los Angeles Angels MLB baseball team.

Dr. Yoon’s experience and interest in laboratory research has spanned for decades. He consults with medical device and biotech research and development groups and has assisted with the development of some of the biologic therapies currently used in the market today. He continues to work with researchers in the lab to better understand orthobiologics and how to improve its use in the clinical setting. With a clientele of patients spanning internationally, Dr. Yoon continues to collaborate with medical providers both domestically and internationally to provide a comprehensive approach for patients seeking second opinion consultations.

Honors & Memberships

Dr. Yoon is a member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Spine Intervention Society. He is a member of the National Basketball Association (NBA) Physician Association and Major League Baseball (MLB) Physician Association. He is annually listed as a Super Doctor in Los Angeles and nationally as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for his accomplishments in Sports Medicine.
